Newbery Review Year by Year

Some of these reviews were written for publication in the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Others were for my own files. Thus the style varies, and varies greatly depending on my mood and what I ate for breakfast. In all cases I attempt to provide a description of the narrative, a capsule commentary, and a few key words that will serve as guides for teachers looking for curriculum links.

A note about the reading level: I used to use the Frye Readability Scale, but I have since opted  to amend it to fit my experiences in the modern classroom. I make allowances for sophistication of content to form the level you see in the synopses.
